ChestPal Pro is a prescription device for professional use only, intended to monitor and record lung sounds and automatically detect crackles and wheezes.
The product consists of a Bluetooth-enabled stethoscope and a mobile app.
The app's main functionality is:
The algorithm differentiates between 5 types of sounds: normal breathing, wheeze, crackles, artifacts, and heartbeat. It uses spectrograms – a visual representation of sounds – to conduct the analysis.
ChestPal Pro is intended to be used in healthcare settings on adults, adolescents, and/or children over 3 years old.
It was designed for use by any healthcare provider who performs lung auscultation, including doctors, nurses, and medical students.
The app provides an automatic computer analysis of lung sound recordings. It differentiates between 5 types of sounds: normal breathing, wheeze, crackles, artifacts, and heartbeat. The algorithm uses spectrograms – a visual representation of sounds – to do such analysis.
Normal breathing, wheezes, crackles, and heartbeat analyses are provided when the spectrogram created by the user receives the highest match with a respective class of spectrograms derived from recordings labelled by respiratory specialists.
Artifacts analysis is provided when the spectrogram created by the user receives the highest match with a class of spectrograms derived from recordings of skin or hair rubbing against the stethoscope membrane, fingers moving on the stethoscope during the recording, stethoscope repositioning during the recording, electromagnetic interference, background noise, etc.
Yes, each recording lasts 5 seconds. During the development process it was determined this is sufficient time for the algorithm to analyze lung sound recordings. It also allows caregivers and providers to record sound from all lung areas without putting too much strain on a patient.
See "How does its lung sound analysis work?" section and "Choosing the appropriate lung exam type" page for further information on how ChestPal Pro can assist you in recording and registering your patients’ lung sounds.
It can. A healthcare provider can share a saved lung exam they performed, incl. during at-home visits, with their colleagues or patients. The recipient will be able to access the audio recordings with their associated spectrograms and automated analysis directly, without any login.
ChestPal Pro is intended to be used in healthcare settings on adults, adolescents, and/or children over 3 years old. The patient should be capable of breathing in and out deeply through an open mouth during the lung sound recording process.
ChestPal Pro, as a lung sound monitor, is exempt from the premarket notification requirement under section 510(k) of the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act.
Yes, ChestPal Pro is HIPAA-compliant. You can read more about our Privacy Policy here “link to the Warranty page”.
We are now working with select distributors to bring ChestPal Pro to primary and secondary care facilities across the US.
To use ChestPal Pro, users should pair their ChestPal Pro electronic stethoscope with an Internet-enabled smartphone using the ChestPal Pro app. The app can be used with iOS 12 and more recent models, Android 6.0 and more recent models. The smartphone should support Bluetooth 5.
